Our Timeline

From 1964 to now, the Castle View Group has been owned and managed by the Bell family. Take a look at the milestones we have hit so far.

2021
SLM won a contract with Winchester City Council. The contract to operate the new £38 million Winchester Sports and Leisure Centre was awarded in February 2019. Whilst the management contract isn’t set to begin until January 2021, SLM will play an active role in supporting the Council during the construction of the new facility.

The fee generated from the leisure contract will provide the Council with the capital required for the new site.

As part of our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of local residents, SLM and East Staffordshire Borough Council will be investing a combined £1.7m into improving the facilities. We believe this will ensure quality leisure services for the community and provide an affordable and diverse range of sports facilities for everyone to enjoy.

Included within this recently awarded contract with Crawly Borough Council, is the operation of the internationally renowned K2 Leisure Centre which hosts a number of prestigious events such as the English Open Snooker championship.

Based upon our considerable experience and industry leading products we will help to grow annual usage to circa 2 million visits per annum.

To compliment the considerable investment made by Bracknell Forest Borough Council in refurbishing Coral Reef Water World, SLM invested £250,000 into developing the Bracknell Leisure Centre. The investment consisted of energy efficiency improvements, new health and fitness equipment and enhancements to the customer journey.

As a result of the facility improvements and application of our award winning services SLM will increase throughput by 10% enabling us to provide an annual saving of £1.2m to the Council.

Our leisure contract in the east of London began in October 2017 and includes the management of Abbey Leisure Centre, Becontree Heath Leisure Centre and Jim Peters Stadium. The contract boasts a number of achievements including housing one of the UK’s largest learn to swim programmes with over 9,000 weekly attendees.

Since taking on the contract SLM has invested circa £3million into developing the service which included construction of the Country’s first 50m modular pool. See image. The pool will help us to meet the incredibly high demand for swimming in the borough and enable us to maximise the revenue potential of contract. Over the duration of the contract we will provide an annual saving to the Council of £2million.

The contract with Slough Borough Council started initially with the management of the Montem Leisure Centre from 1st June 2017. The Slough Ice Arena, Salt Hill family activity centre and Langley Leisure Centre were later added to the management contract following significant developments that included structural remodelling, additional facilities and energy efficiency measures.

In the first operating year (June 17 – March 18) usage increased by 61,000 visits with both health and fitness memberships and the learn to swim programme growing by 10% and 45% respectively.

Over the course of SLMs contract, the Council anticipate saving circa £1m per annum.

We were re-awarded a contract with Havering Borough Council for a further 25 years, the new leisure contract commenced on the 1st October 2016. Included within the requirements of the contract was the construction of a new £25m Hornchurch Leisure Centre under a design, build, operate and maintain arrangement and the launching of the new Sapphire Ice and Leisure facility.

The successful operation of the contract has enabled us to grow the annual turnover of the contract to circa £7million and provide a saving to the Council of £500,000 per annum.

We began a partnership with London Borough of Westminster. It includes the operation of eight leisure facilities in the heart of the capital. Since contract commencement we have invested circa £3.8m into the leisure stock which has helped support the considerable growth in throughput and membership. In 2017/18 an additional 162,500 visits were recorded in comparison to the previous year with annual usage eclipsing 3.6 million visits. During the life our Westminster contract we will help the Council to make savings in excess of £3m.

Located in the South East of the Country, our Hart District Council contract included a £1.8m investment into Frogmore Leisure Centre whilst also supporting the Council with the delivery of a new £23million Hart Leisure Centre.

Since the contract began in February 2016 attendances and concessionary usage has increased by 205,000 visits allowing us to reach 746,000 visits in 2017/18. Over the duration of the contract we will enable the Council to make savings in excess of £3m.

We acquired Weight Management Centre to reinforce the Groups promotion of health and fitness in the UK.

We launched Inhouse Manager – which delivers per day cost control to meet the needs of volume caterers supported by state of the art IT.

Fifty years on we have shown our staying power, skill and versatility. Our areas of operation have changed but our skill in tailoring service precisely to our clients needs remains our key strength.

Uin Foods acquired all trading activities previously carried out by Quisine Foods Limited and continue production at Cambuslang factory.

SLM launched its consumer facing brand, Everyone Active, now a leading activity brand in the UK.

The group underwent a period of restructuring selling a number of business including Castle Independent, our school meals catering company, to Compass and then in 2003 closed Yes Bar Restaurant in Glasgow.

Yes Dining (London) Limited began providing catering for the business and industry sector in and around the London area. Our clients included JP Morgan, Allied Irish, DHL, Bank of England, Eurostar, DFID, Gibson Dunn and Crutcher, Ladbrokes, National Grid, National Archives.

We purchased Sports and Leisure Management (SLM), a leisure company serving over 94 borough council gyms.

The Group sold our CCG business and industry company to Granada.

30 Years on and we operated at 1400 locations, employing over 8000 employees. Our old name, CCG was succeeded by Castle View as we became a group of companies. Our company, International Support Services won contracts in Azerbaijan, Russia, Tunisia and Kazakhstan with blue chip clients including Baker Oil, BP, Scottish Gas, Shell, Sealink, Torness Power Station and Ministry of Defence. Our food production company, Quisine Foods, served major supermarket chains, Sainsburys, Asda and Tesco. Supply Direct had won large NHS contracts. We provided school meals in areas including East Sussex, West Sussex, Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, Brighton and Hove, Stornoway, York and Ealing employing 2500 employees in that area of the business. Business and industry clients included HMSO Scotland, ScottishPower, Inland Revenue, Citibank, Historic Scotland. Our Yes Restaurant Bar & Brasserie in Glasgow attracted an impressive number of famous faces including Robert Duvall, Sebastian Coe, Michael Winner and Rikki Fulton.

We opened a centralised admin office in Bridge of Allan where the group’s core support services are located including payroll, finance, purchasing, human resources and administration.

We successfully broke into the business and industry market in London and before long we won contracts throughout the UK.

North Sea oil and gas fields required complete hotel services for construction camps and offshore. Our facilities management company, CCG Contracting Ltd, provided catering, cleaning, administration support and medical care to keep production going 24 hours a day.

Castle View moved into its next stage of growth in areas being privatised by the Government for example, school meals. In 6 weeks CCG located, designed, equipped and staffed a central production unit to serve up to 20,000 meals a day for more than 100 schools.

Castle View was founded by Frank Bell. Operating from a single room office our first contract took six months to win… but by the end of the year we had four!
